What Is The Difference Between Stainless Steel Cold Rolling and Hot Rolling?

We see stainless steel all the timein our life, people may have doubts who are not familiar with the stainless steel hot rolling and cold rolling process. What are stainless steel cold rolling and hot rolling? What's the difference between the two technologies? They are steel or steel plate forming processes, which have a greatinfluence on the structure and properties of steel.Hot rolling is the main type of steel rolling, small section steel and thin plate are mainly produced bycold rolling. There are some contrasts on cold rolling and hot rolling, such as advantages, disadvantages, features and so on:

Type

Cold Rolling

Hot Rolling

Introduction

It's a process technology which includeafter cold drawing, cold bending, cold drawing and other cold processing steel plate or steel strip processing into various forms of steel at room temperature. Its surface isbright, smooth and beautiful.

The hot rolling versus cold rolling, which has been madeabove the recrystallization temperature. However, cold rolling has been madebelow the recrystallization temperature. The surface of hot rolled stainless steel plate belongs to the industrial surface, rough surface. It feels good.

Advantages

There are a lot of advantages of cold rolling, for example, it takes shape very quickly, high yield, and do not damage the coating. Itcan be made into a variety of cross section forms,in orderto meet the needs of the use conditions; Cold rolling canraisethe yield point of steel through producing largeplastic deformation of steel.

The hot rollingcan destroy the casting structure of steel ingot, refine the grain size of steel, and eliminate the defects of microscopic structure, so that the steel structure is compacted and the mechanical properties are improved. This improvement is mainly reflected along the rolling direction, so that the steel is no longer isotropic to a certain extent. Bubbles, cracks and looseness formed during casting can also be welded under high temperature and pressure.

Disadvantages

1. The residual stress still in the section, although there is no hot plasticcompression in the forming process, which will be influence on the whole andlocal buckling characteristics of the steel.

2. The cold rolling section makesthe free torsion stiffness of the section lower, because of its open cross-section.It is easy to turn under bending and has poor torsional resistance.

1. Although there is no hot plastic compression in the forming process, there is still residual stress in the section, which will inevitably affect the overall and local buckling characteristics of the steel.Uneven cooling of hot rolling results in residual stress, which will affect the structural performance of steel members under external forces, although theresidual stress isself-phase equilibrium. For example, it hasadverse effects in deformation, stability, fatigue resistance and other aspects.

2. It causes layering or creates a sandwich after hot rolling, andthe non-metallic inclusions inside the steel arecompressed into thin slices.

Features

1. Cold rollingstainless steel plate is low toughness and more expensive because ofa certain degree of work hardening.

2. The surface of cold rolling processing without oxide, and it hasgood quality.

3. Cold rolling is used in all walks of life due to its manufacturing process, such as all kinds of cold stamping parts, cold rolling cold extrusion profiles, cold coil springs, cold drawing wires, etc.

1. The temperature of hot rolling is similar to that of forging.

2.It has less toughness andslightly worse surface roughness.

3.Hot plate is processed by hot rolling with oxide skin on the surface, and the thickness of the plate has a lower difference.

4.Hot rolling productsare widely used in domestic tableware, general household appliances and so on, because it has unique manufacturing process.

Difference

1. Local buckling occurs in the section of cold rolled shaped steel, so as to make full use of the bearing capacity of the bar after buckling; And local buckling of hot rolled section is not.

2.What causes theresidual stress? There are different answers in hot rolled steel and cold rolled steel. They also are different inthe distribution on section. The residual stress distribution on cold-formed thin-wall section is curved, while that on hot-rolled or welded section is thin film.

3.Because the free torsion degree of hot rolled section is higher than that of cold rolled section steel, the torsion resistance ofthe former is better than that of the latter.
