Inconel 718:
Inconel 718 is more resistant than most materials to deformation during hot forming due to its strength. If hot forming of this alloy is required, powerful equipment is necessary. Hot forming is performed in the 1650°-2050°F temperature range. In the last operation, the metal should be worked uniformly with a gradually decreasing temperature, finishing with some light reduction in the 1650°-1750°F range. This procedure is necessary to ensure notch ductility in stress-rupture applications when material has been annealed and aged.
Inconel 718:
Inconel 718 can be cold-formed by standard procedures used for steel and stainless steel.
Inconel 718:
Welding Inconel 718 requires specific considerations and techniques due to its unique metallurgical properties. For the selection of welding consumables, it is recommended to use AWS A5.14 ERNiFeCr-2, ERNiFeCr-1 and other nickel-based filler metals specially designed for Inconel 718. These filler metals can offer excellent compatibility and mechanical properties when used with Alloy 718.

What Is Inconel 718 Plate Primarily Used For In Aerospace Applications?
Answer:
Inconel 718 plates are essential in aerospace applications due to their high strength, excellent oxidation resistance, and ability to withstand extreme temperatures. They are commonly used in jet engine components like turbine blades and compressor discs, as well as rocket motors and spacecraft structures, where their mechanical integrity is critical under severe thermal and mechanical stresses. This makes Inconel 718 a go-to material for aerospace engineers seeking reliability and durability in challenging environments.
How Does The Precipitation Hardening Process Affect Inconel 718 Plates?
Answer:
The precipitation hardening process significantly enhances the mechanical properties of Inconel 718 plates by forming gamma prime (γ') and gamma double prime (γ'') phases, which improve tensile strength and creep resistance. This aging treatment allows Inconel 718 to maintain stability at high temperatures, making it ideal for applications requiring superior strength and deformation resistance under extreme mechanical loads. This property is crucial for industries like aerospace and power generation, where reliable performance is mandatory.
What Are The Welding Considerations For Inconel 718 Plates?
Answer:
Welding Inconel 718 plates requires careful control of parameters due to its susceptibility to cracking and deformation. Pre-heating and post-weld heat treatment are often necessary to ensure weld integrity and to prevent phase transformation that can lead to brittleness. The use of compatible filler materials, such as Inconel 718 itself or specific nickel-based fillers, is crucial to maintain the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the welded joints, making it suitable for demanding industrial applications.
