UNS S32906 stainless steel is a high-alloy duplex (austenitic-ferritic) stainless steel belongs to the ASTM A182/A240 standard, which developed to withstand the corrosive environments present in the stamicarbon urea process. Not only the material offers excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion, pitting and crevice corrosion, but also it provides high resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC). In addition, F65 has good weldability.

The material also provides good resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking due to its duplex structure.It's important to note that the corrosion resistance of UNS S32906 can vary depending on the specific operating conditions, concentrations of corrosive agents, and the presence of other factors such as temperature, pH, and velocity.
UNS S32906 stainless steel is a dual phase material with a combination of austenitic and ferritic microstructures, which can affect their machinability. Compared to austenitic stainless steels, UNS S32906 generally have lower cutting speeds. Also, other key points such as tooling selection, feed rates, cutting fluids, rigidity and stability, and chip control need to be considered when machining F65.
UNS S32906 stainless steel has good weldability and suitable method of fusion welding is gas tungsten arc welding GTAW/TIG with shielding gas of Ar+2% N. It must be welded without preheating and subsequent heat treatment is normally not necessary.
